Those who think they are overweight or obese, find the idea of losing weight very attractive. But sometimes losing weight is not normal especially if it is related to some diseases or conditions like in the case of famine or poverty. Going back to weight loss disorders, examples of diseases that cause abnormal weight loss include AIDS or HIV,  chronic or inflammatory bowel diseases, bulimia and even cancer treatments.

HIV or Human Immunodeficiency virus directly affects the body’s immune system hence making it more susceptible to any kind of infection. Common sense dictates that the diseases or infection the human body has often led to weight loss. The same thing happens with AIDS. Statistically 9 out of 10 HIV cases will develop to AIDS in a span of ten to fifteen years.

On the other hand, cancer does not directly cause the weight loss rather it is the treatment that goes with cancer. Toxic chemicals or substances are used to fight of malignant cancer cells. So deadly are these chemicals that these affect the body weight.

Weight loss can also be attributed to bowel diseases. Symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea all contribute to the weight loss of patients who are suffering from chronic or inflammatory bowel diseases.

Meanwhile, bulimia which is often characterized by uncontrollable or excessive eating followed by purging bears resemblance to anorexia, both disorders: bulimia and anorexia are psychological and neurobiological in nature in addition both are associated with purging and vomiting.
